I wish 20 years ago someone had walked alongside of me as an accountability partner, a guide and coach to show me a healthier way to live out my career and/or vocation. Instead, I threw myself completely into my work, chained myself to my desk and became a workaholic. Eventually, though, I found my way, and it was through self-care: reconnecting my soul with my body and mind.
I didn’t need to change my profession, I needed to change my approach to living. And once I began the journey of restoring wholeness to my life, I wanted to help others find the same.
I became a personal trainer and began to train not only myself but other adults, especially mothers on how to care for themselves holistically.
I also trained and competed as a bodybuilder honing a different type of discipline and excellence within my body. For me, bodybuilding became a metaphor to build muscles of resiliency.
Later, I used my English literature and writing background to develop an online health and wellness magazine for faith-based communities and wrote the book The Ten Guiding Lights to Health and Wholeness that encapsulates my journey of integrity.
The word integrity means whole, allowing body, mind, and heart to align with one’s hands. In essence it is showing up in life as your best self, aligning your actions with your values.
